Last summer me and my friend decided to visit Athens and 2 of the Cyclade islands in Greece. To get to the first island Paros we needed to take a ferry so I booked the ticket on Greeka.com. Ticket prices variated from 44.50 EUR to 67.70 EUR on one way. We decided to take the budget-friendly ones and go with Blue Star Ferries. It takes around 4 hours to get there. As the ferry leaves very early – you reach the land before the noon and then can start to enjoy your vacation fully. That’s exactly what we did!
Once we arrived in Paros we went directly to Siroco's Rooms And Studios. It was a nice and cozy place where to stay for 2 nights. The room itself was big and we had our own terrace where we drink a morning coffee and hang our swimming clothes after the time we spend in the pool around the corner.
As soon as we dropped off our luggage we went to rent out a scooter to go to the Kolympethres Beach. It’s one of the most famous beaches of Paros and is located in Plastira Bay. This beach is well known because of the huge blocks of granite boarding it. Nearby they are selling refreshments. I paid 11.50 EUR for Aperol Spritz, so think if it's the price you are willing to pay. If not you can always bring your own drinks if you are traveling on a budget.
Once we felt that it was enough sunbathing and swimming, we went back to our place to change and get ready for lunch. In Parikia, there are many places where to eat. We decided to stop at Taverna Alexandros Paros to try out Greek traditional cuisine. This is a place that I really can recommend cause the food, service, and the view of the Aegean Sea was absolutely amazing. We spent only 31 EUR for 2 meals (one for each) and drinks – Coke, and white wine.
Later in the afternoon, we decided to go back to the north-western part of Paros and visit the Monastery of St. John’s of Deti. It’s a renowned church with an overlook of the great bay of Naoussa. As it’s possible to climb on the roof then many people like to take photos there – including us. This place is really magical so it’s worth visiting it.
After the photoshoot and swimming at the nearest beach Paralia Monastiri we jumped back on our scooter and went to Naousa to watch the UEFA EURO semi-final game, where Spain and Italy needed to compete for a place in the finals. As we had a bit of time before the game we walked between their stone-paved streets. This village was very lively and its restaurants were full of people. Although they have restaurants on every corner it’s hard to find one with a TV. Some of them were already booked, so we had to keep searching, but we succeeded and found a perfect place where to watch the match. The game ended with an Italian victory, so they made it to the finals.
Soon after that, we went back to Parikia. At least we tried. Not for the first time that day, our scooter did not want to work. It took us a while to get to the accommodation. There are no specific rental companies that I can recommend to you. The company whose service we used gave us a negative experience. In case you ever find yourself in a situation where something is not working as it should - report it to the company's employees immediately and ask for a replacement.
Despite the fact that the scooter didn’t want to cooperate with us also in the next morning, we got it back to life and went to the Cave of Archilochos. It was a bit challenging to get there but totally worth visiting.
When living on an island, there is a swim at the end of almost every activity. This time wasn't an exception. Soon after visiting the cave, we went to Marcelo beach. It was one of those beaches that is covered with sand, so it was nice to sleep on it.
After enjoying the touch of the sun and the sea, we went to the village of Lefkes. It’s situated only 11km from Parikia so it’s easy to reach it only in a couple of minutes. It is one of the largest as well as the most beautiful inland villages. No wonder it was once the capital of Paros.
At the end of the second day, we went back to Parikia to relax and chill before our last day on the island of Paros. One of the places that we visited was a local bar where you can order shisha and drinks. We paid only 22 EUR for everything so I would say that the prices there were very wallet-friendly. The quality of shisha was good for the price they offered, but it’s hard to compare with a few other places where I’ve tried it.
After a well-deserved rest, we were ready to enjoy the last day on this island. Small walks around the town and its surrounding - wandering the narrow streets and visiting various sights. This island, people, and its nature have created memories that I will be able to keep in my heart for a long time. If your wallet allows, be sure to visit this island and indulge in magic. In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take!
