Lefkes Village

Lefkes is small yet charming village situated in the central part of Paros. It’s the most mountainous village of the island and it offers a breathtaking view of the Naxos island. But that’s not all. If you will take a walk through the village, you will see that there are many narrow streets filled with small traditional whitewashed houses and taverns. Historically, in the Middle Ages, it was the capital of Paros.

My visit to Lefkes began with a short walk through the village. I wandered around until I noticed a small house with a magnificent bougainvillea tree. That’s where I took my first stop. For the people of the Mediterranean, it could just be a tree, but for northern Europeans like me, it is something magical. These trees bloom from May to November, so if you go to Greece between these months, I'm sure you'll see them too.

After strolling throught this beautifult village, I decided to have a lunch at the traditional Greek restaurant Lefkiano. There I ordered one of the tastiest shrimp I have tried in my life. My mouth was watering just by looking at the food and the service I received at this place was amazing. Even the prices was budget-friendly and I could fill my stomach with fresh seafood for less than 20 euros.

After enjoying gastronomy in this sunny village I decided to go to the Church of Agia Triada. a Byzantine temple with a unique architectural significance. This church belongs to the basilica type, with three aisles, including skillfully designed arches. Its main building material is the famous semi-transparent Paros marble. When going to Lefkes you should definitely visit this cultural monument.

For me it took less then 3 hours to explore this village. Small suggestion to all the travelers - before leaving your car save your parking on Google Maps, because all the streets at Lefkes look the same. But, on the other hand, it's nice to get lost in a place as beautiful as this one.
